For the last few years, the Sperax Walking Pad has been one of the most popular walking pads, outselling the competition 2 to 1. One of the reasons for this is the price. Selling for under $200, makes it an affordable choice for most people.
Another reason it sells so well is that it has proven itself to be durable. People who have bought this machine are still just as happy with it now as they were a year ago when they purchased it, which is always a good sign. It shows that this walking pad, at the very least, is made from hard wearing materials.
Still, what sells this machine for me is its size. It’s compact, lightweight, and easy to store. It fits under a bed or couch, or you can just rest it up against a wall.
I did find it lacked a little power, and the running belt was pretty short, something I’ll talk about later, but overall, I found it impressive for the price point.
Recently Updated – Now With Handlebars
Great to see these guys added the handbar this year and increased the speed of the treadmill. No longer is this treadmill just a walking pad with a top speed of 3.8mph. The top speed is now 6mph, and you get a handlebar for support and somewhere to place your phone or iPad.
And what’s best is that they didn’t hike the price. It’s the same price as it was last year without the handlebar.

With this year’s updates, you can now use this treadmill as an under-desk machine for walking and working and also for slightly faster-paced cardio, such as light jogging, which is a big improvement from last year’s version.
There are a few drawbacks, like the short running belt, but it shouldn’t be a deal breaker, especially if you’re only going to use this treadmill for light cardio.
Before we dive into the pros and cons of the Sperax Walking Pad, let’s start with a quick overview of the product specs!

Why Do We Like The Sperax Walking Treadmill?
The first thing you’ll love about this treadmill is that it comes pre-assembled. There’s nothing to do apart from unboxing it and getting it in place.
Still, even though it’s a fairly light treadmill weighing just 51lb, you might need some help carrying it upstairs, etc., as the box is large and awkward to carry for one person.
0.2mph Speed Increments
Once unboxed, the first impressive feature I noticed was the speed increments. I was surprised to see they adjusted in 0.2mph increments, as many of the treadmills in this price range adjust in 0.5mph increments, which can be too much of a jump in speed, especially for walking.
I mentioned this treadmill is relatively light, still it’s not so light that you have stability issues. There is some weight there at 51lb. It’s heavier than most $200 walking pads I’ve reviewed, which is a good thing, as that extra little bit of weight helps keep this walking pad planted to the floor.
Also, the heavier the walking pad, the higher the quality of the parts used in the build.
Radio Frequency Remote Control
And lastly the remote for the treadmill uses radio frequency, a very important feature as it allows you to adjust the speed and other settings without pointing it at the the treadmill.
You can rest the remote on a desk while walking and still be able to adjust the speed without having to bend down and point the remote at the front of the treadmill a feature a lot of the walking pads sadly lack.
Short-Narrow Running Belt
The main drawback with all walking pads, not just the Sperax walking pad, is the running belt size. Under-desk treadmills are designed to be compact, which means the length and width of the running belts are always restricted.
The reason the running belt size is important is that it determines who can use the treadmill and for what. Typically, short belts are used only for walking and fast-paced walking.
The Sperax running belt measures 39″. I’ve reviewed walking pads with just 36″ belts, so the Sperax belt isn’t the shortest belt I’ve come across despite its ultra compact design.
So what does this all mean for you? Firstly, there won’t be any running on the Sperax walking pad. The belt is too short and narrow, plus the motor lacks power for running. However, light jogging is possible on this treadmill if you’re under 5’8″. Anyone over this height will have a stride too large when jogging for a 39″ belt.
Max user height for walking on a 39″ belt is around 6’1
The width of the belt is only 16″, which is fine for walking and light jogging. Anything more than this, you risk stepping off the side of the belt while exercising, which can be dangerous.
While short running belts are seen as drawbacks, they are okay for light cardio, and as this is a walking pad designed mostly for walking, a short running belt is always to be expected.
Also, there is an upside to short belts. It keeps the machine compact. Making the Sperax one of the easiest to store treadmills on the market. Something I know will come in handy for many users who are tight on space or live in apartments.
Easy To Use Monitor With Remote
In this price range, we’re not going to come across any advanced features. And you don’t really need them for a walking pad. Simple is best, and that’s exactly what we have here. It’s an easy to use monitor and no one should have any problems using the remote.
The monitor, which is built into the running deck, will track all your essential workout stats, such as time, distance, speed, and calories.
You can adjust the speed and the modes of the treadmill using the remote when the handrail is folded, and when unfolded, you have a small control center built into the handrail. Both the remote and the handrail controls are easy to use. Nothing complicated.
There’s no way to measure pulse rate, which is a shame, and there are no apps either, which is expected in this price bracket.
Overall, it’s a basic monitor, nothing over complicated, it tracks all your essential workout stats.
Yes, some people may find the monitor’s lack of features disappointing, but sometimes basic is better when it comes to monitors. It keeps the price down, and from experience when I’ve used high-end monitors, many of the features are never used, so can be a waste of money. I feel basic and easy to use is best for walking pads.
Anything I didn’t Like?
The motor seems a touch on the noisy side to be brushless. This treadmill is loud for its size and can be a bit off putting. I can only think they have used a brushed motor instead of a brushless one, which generally is louder in operation.
Also, the motor seems to lack a bit of power, as a few users have mentioned.
There’s enough power there for walking and some light jogging, but if you’re a large person weighing over 220lb, you’ll have problems with this machine. Yes, these guys say it has a 280lb weight capacity, but I believe it’s far lower than that. I’d go as far as saying to keep the max weight under 200lb because the motor just isn’t powerful enough for anything heavier, and you’ll risk burnout.
Do I need a Treadmill Mat?
Treadmill mats are useful, especially for light treadmills. These under desk machines don’t have the stability of larger heavy duty treadmills, and treadmill mats help prevent movement while in use.
Another reason a treadmill mat comes in handy is to protect your polished floors from scratches.
Treadmill mats are also excellent for soaking up all the vibrations from your workouts, which is important if you live in an apartment and want to keep the neighbours happy.
I’ve found the best cheap treadmill mats are made by Sunny Health & Fitness. Click the link below to view on Amazon.
Limited Deck Cushioning
There isn’t an actual anti-shock system on this treadmill built into the running deck. It’s more like a double-sided piece of foam placed between the deck and the frame, plus you have a multi-layered belt, so there is some cushioning, and you’ll feel it.
It’s not like the cushioning systems on the treadmills you use in your local gym, but there’s enough to protect your joints from some of the impact of each foot strike.
No Inlcine
Only a few of the walking pads include an incline feature. The HccSport walking pad has a 2-level 6% incline. Still, the HccSport walking pads cost $100 more than the Sperax walking pad, so you’d expect to find a few extra features.
Why is an incline important? Mostly because it brings something extra to your workouts, walking on an incline burns twice as many calories as walking on flat. Also, incline walking/jogging works those hard-to-train muscles like your calves, hamstrings, and glutes.
It’s an excellent future, not essential, but something I usually recommend people look for when choosing a treadmill with a handlebar.
The Good
Updated for this year now comes with a handrail
Compact design, can be stored up against a wall, under a bed or couch
No assembly required. just unbox and ready to go
0.2mph speed increments with a top speed of 6mph
Built in transport wheels
Radio frequency remote control – no need to point at the treadmill to adjust speed and modes
Competitively priced, great price for a 3 in 1 treadmill
The Bad
Short running belt, can not be used for running
No way to measure heart rate
Noisey for a small treadmill – they have used a brushed motor instead of a brushless
Motor lacks power for heavier users. A more realistic weight capacity for this machine would be 200lb
Alternative

HccSport 3 in 1 Treadmill
One of my favorite under desk treadmills has to be the HccSport 3 in 1 treadmill.
I reviewed this walking pad last week, and what impressed me the most was the build quality.
This thing weighs over 80lb. That’s an impressive weight for a walking pad. Yes, it’s heavier than most, so it’s a little more difficult to move around, but it’s worth it. The heavier the treadmill, the higher the quality of the machine, and that extra weight provides stability, which is essential when exercising on any treadmill.
Another impressive feature of this walking pad is the incline feature. You have a 6% 2-level manual incline with the HccSport treadmill.
An incline is a feature I like to see on all treadmills, as it adds something extra to your workout. You can burn twice as many calories walking and jogging on an incline.
The monitor isn’t anything special, you get 12 built-in workout programs, and it tracks all the essential workout data like speed and distance.
It’s a basic monitor, just like the Sperax monitor. You have controls built into the handlebars and a remote to adjust the speed when the handles are folded. The remote for the HccSport Treadmill is a cool little wristband.
Similar to the Speracx 3 in 1 treadmill the downside of the HccSport treadmill is the short running belt, it measure 42″ so is only suitable for walking and jogging.
Still, what really sells this machine is its powerful 3.5HP motor, a motor this powerful is usually found only on mid-high-end treadmills. Powerful enough to cope with heavy users with ease. It’s a brushless motor, which means it’s quiet, much quieter than the Sperax treadmill motor, even though it’s more powerful.
Over an excellent 3 in 1 under desk treadmill. The price tag is $100 higher than the Sperax Treadmill, but you get a lot more.
To Sum Up
The Sperax Walking Pad is impressive for the price point. It’s in my top 3 in the under $200 price bracket. A few of the features stand out. I liked the 0.2mph speed increments, and it’s pretty sturdy for its weight.
And I’m glad Sperax finally decided to add the handlebar this year and increase its top speed so it can now be used for light jogging as well as walking.
Little things like the Radio frequency remote helped sell this one to me, as did its compact size. It’s one of the smallest walking pads I’ve come across, yet they still managed to keep a 40″ running belt, which is good news. There are better walking pads with more features, like an incline, but you have to pay more.
If you want a basic but well made walking pad that includes all the essentials, the Sperax Walking Pad is one of the best out there right now for under $200. I’m happy to recommend it.
