There are a lot of fast-to-adjust 25lb dumbbells on the market, but the Ceayun Adjustable Dumbells feel a little different. They feel solid; there’s no weight plate movement or rattle, which is surprising as its one of the main issues I come across when reviewing the cheaper 25lb dumbbells.

And thankfully, there’s no plastic casing surrounding the weight plates, which is another big advantage over the other sets – less plastic less chance of breakage.

Includes Comparison With top-selling 25lb Dumbbell.

Today I want to take a close look at everything this impressive set of bells from Ceayun has to offer, including its drawbacks because there are few small ones. At the end of the review, I’ll also compare the Ceayun dumbbells with another popular set, the Flybird 25lb dumbbells, as it will be interesting to see how the Ceanyun Dumbbells match up.

But before we get on with the review, let’s take a few seconds to look at the Ceayun dumbbell product specs!

Why Do We Like The Ceayun Adjustable Dumbbells?

The best feature of this dumbbell is its adjustments system. The twist-lock system of the Ceanyun dumbbells is the fastest adjustment system out there. It takes a second to adjust. Just a twist of your wrist to select the weight you want to lift, it’s that easy.

However, you need to make sure the dumbbell is fully sitting in the storage tray before adjusting the weight. It’s a simple mistake a few people make with twist-lock systems. Push the dumbbell entirely in, and then when you twist your wrist, you should hear a click when the adjustment system locks into the weight plate you want to lift.

The good thing about speedy adjustments times is that you can perform any exercise you want. Even advanced bodybuilding techniques such as drops sets that require a quick weight change can be performed with a fast adjustment system like the twist lock of the Ceayun’s.

No Plastic Surrounding The Weight Plates – It’s a Good Thing!

Something else that impressed me about the Ceayun Dumbbells is that they don’t include the plastic casing for weight plates. This is something so many dumbbells have, and its a headache. Its the first thing to break if you drop a dumbbell, and once the plastic casing is cracked, the dumbbell becomes unusable. Its an issue with top-selling sets like the Bowflex 552s, CoreFitness, and many more. The less plastic, the better when it comes to dumbbells, so a thumbs up to Ceayun for giving their weight plates a powder-coated finish rather than the plastic casings.

5lb Increments

Its always good to see a dumbbell that adjusts in 5lb increments; anything higher than this will slow your progress. Ideally, you should look for a dumbbell that adjusts in 2.5lb increments or 5lb, don’t go for a dumbbell that adjusts in increments of 10lb. It’s just too bigger a jump in weight.

Think of it this way if you can curl a 15lb Ceayun dumbbell for ten reps and you want to continue adapting, curing a 20lb dumbbell represents a 25% increase in the load, thats still a fairly large jump in weight, but it’s acceptable for progress.

If you chose a dumbbell with increments of 10lb, the jumps in weight would be twice as much, which almost makes them useless for isolation exercises and beginners.

No Weight Expansion Packs Available

Also, something else to think about is that this dumbbell only goes up to 25lb which is okay for beginners. Still, you’ll be surprised how fast gains in strength come when you first start lifting.

There are no weight expansion packs available for this dumbbell, so once you outgrow the 25lb max weight, you’ll have to buy another set of heavier bells to continue your progress.

If you’re serious about your lifting, it’s usually better to start with a 50lb per dumbbell set. This leaves a lot more room for growth.

Fixed Length Handles Can Be An Issue

The Ceayun Dumbbells use fixed-length handles. A fixed-length handle is an adjustable dumbbell handle that doesn’t change in length no matter how much weight you lift. You can lift 10lb or 25lb, and the length of the handle stays the same. The problem with fixed-length handles is they can be awkward to train with.

Long handles take away that natural feel you want from a dumbbell, and they have plagued many of the selectable dumbbells designs for decades. Even the Bowflex 552’s have fixed-length handles. Are they a deal-breaker? No, you can get used to a fixed-length handle, it might take a few weeks if you’re a beginner, especially when setting up for presses and curls, but it shouldn’t put you off the dumbbells.

Also, this is a 25lb set, so the length of the handle is slightly shorter than the heavier sets.

Can I drop a Ceayun Adjustable Dumbbell?

I mentioned there’s no plastic surrounding the weight plates, but there’s still a ton of plastic in the handle and adjustment system. So sadly, there’s no training to failure with the Ceayun dumbbells and dropping them. They can handle 6″ or so drops, but I wouldn’t risk anything higher.

The warranty does not cover drops. I’ve never reviewed a dumbbell with a warranty covering drops, so it’s not just the Ceayun bells. You’ll need to be careful if you don’t want to end up with a hefty repair bill.

Anything Else Worth Mentioning?

The Ceayun Dumbbells sell in singles. I normally wouldn’t recommend buying a single dumbbell unless your budget is really tight and there’s no avoiding it, or your training only requires one dumbbell.

The reason it’s always best to buy two dumbbells is so you can perform compound movements such as bench presses etc. Compound movements should be the backbone of any bodybuilding routine. You’ll make gains in strength and mass faster and burn off unwanted fat quicker too.

Alternative

FlyBird 25lb Dumbbell

Over the years, I’ve reviewed many products from Flybird, and these guys always impress. They specialize in low-cost, high-quality gym gear, and their 25lb dumbbells are no exception.

The Flybird adjustable dumbbell is very similar to the Ceayun dumbbell. Both dumbbells adjust in 5lb increments, use the super-fast twist-lock adjustment system, and come without that horrible plastic casing for the weight plates.

The Flybird dumbbells have a small advantage over the Ceayuns; the handle is slightly shorter. Still, the handles, like the Ceayuns, have some plastic, so there are no drops with the Flybird set.

The quality of the Ceayun and Flybird dumbbells is similar both feel solid with no plate movement, are easy to adjust, and come with powder-coated plates.

It’s hard to separate the Ceayun and the Flybird dumbbells; they are probably the two most impressive 25lb dumbbells in this price bracket. Still, if you want a dumbbell whose handle is slightly shorter, and you want a product by a company with one of the best reps in the business? The Flybirds are the better dumbbells, but not by much.

To Sum Up

There really aren’t many decent 25lb dumbbells out there, most lack any quality and are difficult to adjust the weight. The Ceayun Adjustable Dumbbells are one of the more impressive Selectable 25lb dumbbells. Thanks to the twist-lock adjustment system, they’re super fast to adjust, and they feel solid, with no plate rattle.

I couldn’t find any deal breakers with the Ceayun dumbbells. The handles are long but not too long to cause any major problems when lifting. And yes there’s some plastic in the handle and adjustment system. Still, as long as you’re careful and avoid dropping the things, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t last years. Overall a well-made 25lb dumbbell perfect for beginners or anyone that doesn’t need the more expensive, heavier sets.
