I’ve been reviewing Marcy’s gym gear for years. These guys make some impressive affordable equipment, and their treadmills, although basic, are some of the best you’ll find in this price bracket. The Marcy Treadmill isn’t a treadmill for serious runners; this treadmill has been designed for people who want to burn some unwanted calories without worrying about what the weather is doing outside. It’s a treadmill for light to medium workouts and has a price tag that reflects its basic but sturdy design.
Compact & Easy To Store
One of the reasons I’ve always liked basic treadmills isn’t just because they are easy to set up and use; it’s how easy a treadmill like the Marcy JX-651BW is to store. The Marcy Treadmill is compact. It measures just 66,” and best of all, it folds flat, allowing you to store it under a bed or against a wall. It’s a great choice for people who live in apartments or are tight on space.
Overall this is an impressive folding treadmill from Marcy. They have got most of the essentials right. Still, there are a few drawbacks, like the narrow running belt, which I will talk about later in the review. But First, let’s take a quick look at this treadmill’s product specs!

Why Do We Like The Marcy Treadmill?
What I like most about this treadmill is that it feels sturdy, which is what’s most important when you buy a treadmill. You don’t want something that moves around when you’re jogging. The Marcy treadmill weighs 107lb, that’s fairly heavy for a basic treadmill like the Marcy.
Being a little heavier than most affordable treadmills is a good thing because that extra weight is a telling sign that this treadmill is made from quality materials. Also, that extra weight will help keep the Marcy treadmill planted to the floor, which is what you want. It’s a solid little treadmill for the price point.
2HP Peak Motor
Another nice surprise was the motor, which peaks at 2HP and is slightly more powerful than Marcy’s completion in this price range. A 2HP motor is nothing to shout home about, but it’s impressive for a budget treadmill. There’s easily enough power here to cope with intense workouts and heavier users up to 240lb.
Store Upright or Flat
As I already mentioned in the intro, the main selling feature of this treadmill is that it folds flat for storage.
Folding a treadmill of this size shouldn’t take more than 20 seconds. Still, this is a relatively heavy treadmill, so if you haven’t worked your biceps lately you may need to ask someone for help. The Marcy Treadmill has been designed to be stored flat or upright when folded. I know many people like to store a treadmill of this size under their beds. Still its small enough to be stored upright in a closet too.

Is The Running Belt To Narrow?
The size of the running belt is one of the most important features of any treadmill you’re going to purchase, as it determines who can use the treadmill and for what.
Something I noticed about the Marcy treadmill running belt is how narrow it is at 16″. You might have used a treadmill in your local gym? If you have, their running belt widths are usually 20-22″, so as you can imagine, a 16″ width is going to feel narrow.
However, a 16″ Width is Not a Deal Killer
A 16″ width for your running belt isn’t a deal killer. All it means is you have to be careful not to step off of the side of your treadmill when you’re jogging.
Steeping off a treadmill is more of an issue for intense, fast-paced running sessions. The Marcy treadmill isn’t designed for fast-paced cardio workouts, and as most people will be using the treadmill for light workouts stepping off shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
I recommend you start with a few walking sessions to get used to the size of the treadmill deck. And move up to jogging when you feel more comfortable.
The Length of The Belt is Impressive
On the positive, the length of the running belt is quite impressive at 48″. This length of a running belt is suitable for users up to 6ft for walking and jogging.
Users over 6ft with larger strides will only be able to use this treadmill for walking. Shorter users under 5’4″ can use a 48″ running belt for more intense running sessions because of their shorter strides.

Monitor With 10 Workout Programs
We’ll never find HD screens, tons of workout programs, and fancy training apps in this price range. Still, I liked this monitor as it’s easy to use and doesn’t take any time to set up.
The Marcy Treadmill monitor tracks all your vital workout stats, such as time, distance, speed, and calories. However, its best feature has to be the ten built-in workout programs. Workout programs are excellent for keeping away the monotony of long cardio sessions, the treadmill sets you some goals, and it’s the goals that keep you challenged and coming back for more. The extra bonus of this monitor is that it allows you to create your own cardio programs which is a handy feature.
The only downside to this monitor I found is when you place a phone or tablet on the tablet holder. It blocks the view of your workout stats. Not a huge issue but worth a mention.

Low Noise – Can Watch TV While You Jog
Any treadmill that uses a motor of 2HP or less is considered a low noise treadmill, my girlfriend owns a treadmill with a peak performance of around 2HP, and it’s almost silent, only hearing the sound of her feet making an impact with the running deck. The good thing about owning a treadmill with a smaller motor is you can watch TV and listen to music without being disturbed by the sound of the machine.
Comes Pre-Assembled
Treadmills can be a pain in the butt to assemble. Thankfully, Marcy has saved you a few headaches as their folding treadmill comes 100% pre-assembled. Just unbox, and you’re ready to go!
The Good
Sturdy treadmill – feels solid, surprising for a treadmill in this price bracket
Decent monitor with 10 workout programs and the option to create your own
Easy to store, compact, and folds. Can be stored under a bed, in a closet or against a wall. Great for apartment living or anyone whos tight on space
2 year warranty
2HP motor – Suitable for walking, jogging and users up to 240lb
Treadmill comes pre-asemebled
The Bad
If you’ve been used to using treadmills in your local gym, the Marcy running belt will feel narrow. With only a 16″ width you need to be careful not to step off of the machine when working out
You may need to ask someone to help you fold the treadmill as its relatively heavy with no soft-touch fold system
Not suitable for fast-paced workouts
Alternative

FYC Folding Treadmill ($299)
I reviewed the FYC treadmill a couple of years ago, and it impressed me with how much it offered for such a low price tag. Just like the Marcy treadmill, the FYC treadmill folds flat for storage.
It’s even more compact than the Marcy treadmill, which means its running belt is shorter at just 41″. This is a treadmill that’s used mainly for walking and some light jogging. It uses a 1.5HP motor which isn’t too bad considering the price, so it will cope with workouts up to 6mph and users with a max weight of 220lb.
For just $300, you have a well-made folding treadmill that’s easy to store and boasts a decent monitor with 12 workout programs which is great to see in this price range.
Okay, the FYC treadmill only weighs 50lb, so it’s a lightweight option, but if you only need a treadmill for walking? You don’t really need anything more heavy-duty than this.
As I mentioned, the FYC has been around a few years and receives mostly positive feedback, with an average of 4.2 stars out of 5 with over 700 ratings – good going for a budget folding treadmill.
To Sum Up
Marcy always impresses when it comes to affordable workout gear for our home gyms. They deliver as much quality and features as possible for the price. And that’s evident here. Their treadmill weighs over 100lb which is heavy for a treadmill in this price range. That extra weight gives the Marcy Treadmill a solid feel. It doesn’t feel cheap.
Even the monitor has ten workout programs, and it’s nice and easy to use. There’s nothing complicated about this treadmill, it’s basic, but it’s good. There’s no assembly required, just unbox the treadmill and turn it on. And best of all, you can fold it flat once you’ve finished, making it one of the easiest-to-store treadmills on the market.
The only drawback is the narrow running belt, but as most people won’t be using this treadmill for intense cardio sessions, the narrow belt shouldn’t be an issue.
