There’s a ton of lightweight benches on the market right now, and I seem to be reviewing more each year. Is it a good thing? Well, yes and no.
The problem with these cheap, lightweight benches, like the Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench, is that they lack the stability of the more expensive heavy-duty benches. And you need a stable base to press from, whether you’re a beginner lifting light or a serious lifter lifting heavy.
An unstable bench affects your form, which is the last thing you want. So, yes, stability is the main issue that plagues these lightweight folding benches. I’ve found it an issue with most of them. Yes, there are a few decent, more study ones, but most are cheaply made and unstable.
The Pro’s Outweigh The Cons
The Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench is another cheap, lightweight bench. It’s not the worst I’ve reviewed, but it’s also not the best. Still, I do feel the positives outweigh the cons with this one. I love the ladder adjustment system for the back pad, and the padding for the bench is just about right.
There are some drawbacks, stability being one of them, which we’ll talk about later but for under $100, I’m actually impressed with this lightweight folding bench, which is rare for me.

So, yes, heavy lifting with this bench is out. However, it does make a pretty good dumbbell bench, which is why I think it’s worth taking a more detailed look. Today, we’ll take a close look at everything it has to offer, including those drawbacks.
Also, at the end of the review, I’m going to compare the Lusper Dumbbell Bench with its bigger brother, a more heavy-duty version, and surprisingly there’s not much of a price hike, so it will be interesting to see how these two benches match up.

Why Do We Like The Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench?
Lets first talk about all the positives of this bench. As I mentioned in the intro I like that Lusper used a ladder adjustment system for the back pad.
Fast To Adjust, Sturdy and Safer Than Pull Pin
The reason you want a ladder adjustment system for a weight bench is that it’s much faster to adjust than the pull pin type systems and sturdier and safer.
The pull-pin type system for back pads is okay for the more expensive heavy-duty benches, as the back pad support bar and pin are made of high-quality materials. But when the pull pin system is used on low-cost benches, of course, the quality of the parts is much lower.
I’ve been reviewing weight benches for over a decade. I’ve witnessed a few of the pins snapping under heavy weight loads, and this only happens with cheap benches.
So yeah, if you’re going to choose a low-cost bench, it’s always better to choose one with a ladder adjustment system. Not only is it much safer, but it’s also faster and sturdier.
Padding – Not too soft Nor Too Hard – Perfect
The next feature I really like about the Lusper Dumbbell Bench is the padding. It’s just right. It’s not too soft that it causes stability issues, or too hard to be off-putting. It’s just right and a surprise to find it on a bench with such a low price tag.
The upholstery is also pretty good. Made from hard-wearing PU leather, it’s going to last a while. For a cheap bench, I’m really impressed with both the padding and the covering.
3 Seconds To Fold – Pick It Up With One Hand
The ladder adjustment system, padding, and upholstery are big thumbs up for this bench and my favorite features. However, I know many people will love how easy it is to fold—it takes only a few seconds. It’s also such a light bench that once folded, you can pick it up with one hand.
The Lusper Weight Bench is one of the easiest to move, fold, and store benches I’ve reviewed. If you’re tight on space and looking for a well-made foldable dumbbell bench, it’s a good choice.
There’s No Adjustable Seat
One of the drawbacks of most weight benches under $100, including the Lusper Weight Bench, is the lack of an adjustable seat. The reason why an adjustable seat is so important is that it stops your butt from slipping down the seat when incline pressing.
When you incline press, it’s vital to have a stable base, especially if you’re pressing heavy weights. An adjustable seat will give you that support.
I didn’t expect to find an adjustable seat on the Lusper bench. It’s a cheap dumbbell bench, and not many include one, but if you’re serious about developing your upper pectorals, an adjustable seat is a must.
It’s not so important when pressing light weights on an incline, but for the more serious lifters out there or anyone who wants to press heavy, you do need that adjustable seat.

Stability Issues?
As I mentioned in the intro, most of the low-cost, lightweight benches have stability problems. Firstly, these benches lack the weight to give them that solid feel—the Lusper Weight Bench weighs just 20lb.
Also, most of the cheap weight benches are designed by companies that haven’t been around long, they don’t have much experience, and it really affects the stability of the benches they produce.
One of the problems with the Lusper Bench is that the stabilizing front and rear feet aren’t very wide. And it’s the first thing to affect stability.
You need the wide, stabilizing feet, especially when bench-pressing heavy dumbbells. Again, it is not so much of an issue for light workouts, but for heavier dumbbell workouts, the lack of wide, stabilizing feet on a lightweight bench is a problem.
Also, Lusper seems to have forgotten to add the adjustable levellers to the feet of the bench. Adjustable levellers are one of the most important features to improve the stability of a lightweight bench or “any bench,” as you can adjust them to keep the weight bench stable on uneven floors.
For Lusper not to include the adjustable levellers shows a lack of experience, as you find them on benches even cheaper than the Lusper bench. It’s not an expensive feature to add to a bench.
So yeah, the Lusper Bench has some stability issues it’s not the worst I’ve reviewed, but it’s disappointing.
They did get the padding right. It’s not too soft to cause stability problems when bench pressing, which is important. So, at least they’re doing something right when it comes to stability.
Full FID Bench- 11 Back Pad Positions
I remember the days when it was almost impossible to find a full FID (flat, incline, decline) for under $200. Even 5 years ago, it was tough, but lately, more and more full FID benches are appearing, and some for even under $100, like the Lusper Weight Bench.
What’s great about a full FID bench is that you can work all areas of the pectorals. You can decline press, flat press, and incline press, which is impressive for under $100.
The Lusper Bench includes 11 back pad positions, which is excellent. Its more than enough for all your pressing needs.
The only slight drawback is that the Lusper didn’t include 80-85 degrees for seated shoulder pressed. There’s only a 90 or 75 degrees for shoulders.
The problem with 90 degrees for seated shoulder presses is that it gives you the feeling of almost falling forward when pressing, and it doesn’t allow you to arch your back slightly.
An 80-85 degree angle will allow for a very slight back arch. This allows you to fully engage your glutes and lower back muscles, thus creating a more stable base; the more stable the base, the more power you’ll create.
The Lusper bench does include a 75-degree, but it’s slightly too low to engage the shoulder muscles fully.
So you’ll need to use the 90 degrees for the seated shoulder press. It’s okay, it’s better than being too low, just a shame there’s no 80 or 85 degrees.
Can The Lusper Adjustable Bench Handle It’s 700lb Capacity?
Maybe it could take a weight of 700lb a couple of times, but on a daily basis, no! This is a 20lb low cost folding weight bench. It’s a long way off of heavy duty.
It’s great that it includes the ladder adjustment system, which makes lifting heavy on a cheap weight bench that much safer, but you don’t have the commercial grade welds or a heavy gauge steel frame.
It’s a lightweight dumbbell bench best suited to beginners or intermediate lifters. I wouldn’t even risk lifting heavy barbells inside a rack on something this lightweight.
A more realistic weight capacity for a 20lb foldable low-cost beach would be 200lb user weight and 200lb weight load. So a combined max capacity of around 400lb maybe 500 lb because of that ladder adjustment system. Which is still more than enough for most people’s needs.
5 Minute Unbox and Assembly
One of the major positives of this bench is how easy it is to assemble. Once unboxed, tighten, and a few screws, and it’s done. It takes under 5 minutes, and because the bench is so light, you won’t need a second person to help you.
Folding the Lusper Bench is a breeze. You remove a pin, and it folds in a few seconds. It can be stored against a wall. It’s perfect for people who are tight on space and need a bench that’s easy to fold, move, and store after each workout.

Alternative

Lusper Adjustable Bench – Upgraded Version
This is the heavy-duty version of their dumbbell bench. Well, it’s not quite heavy-duty, but it’s not that far off; for a $100 weight bench, this thing really impressed me.
Firstly, it actually has some weight. It weighs 32lb unboxed, so it’s third heavier than Lusper’s standard dumbbell bench. That extra weight is important as it gives the bench a much sturdier feel. Many users have mentioned that this bench feels like a proper weight bench, which is exactly what you want.
Also, it has wider stabilizers, and they’ve remembered to use adjustable levelers for the feet, so it’s a much more stable bench than its little brother. You don’t need to worry about movement when lifting heavy.
Also, what’s really impressive about this bench is that it includes an adjustable seat, so you’ll have support when incline pressing. This is an essential feature and something I always recommend looking for when choosing a weight bench, especially if you take your lifting seriously.
Thankfully, they’ve used the ladder adjustment system for the back pad with this bench, and you have the same 2″ padding they used with the standard dumbbell bench. Which, of course, is a good thing.
There are 8 back pad positions that include decline, so it’s another full FID bench.
I can’t find fault with this bench for the price bracket. Even the folding system is fast, which is impressive for a heavy-duty bench. It takes just 5 or so seconds to remove a couple of pins and fold.
With a price tag of around $90, you can’t go wrong with this bench. It’s a no-brainer. If you’ve been looking for a sturdy, well-made folding bench for home and don’t want to spend over $100, the Lusper Heavy Duty Weight bench is unbeatable. I’m happy to recommend it.
To Sum Up
The Lusper Standard Dumbbell Weight Bench isn’t anything to shout home about. It’s a decent bench. I love that they included the ladder adjustment system for the back pad, and the padding is great, too.
Also, I like that Lusper got the height right with their dumbbell bench. It measures 17.5″, which is the same height as a commercial flat bench, so it’s perfect for foot placement when pressing. A lot of the cheap benches are too high, and shorter users have issues with placing their feet flat on the ground when bench pressing, so it’s great to see a low-cost bench with the right height.
So yeah, the Lusper dumbell bench has a lot going for it. It’s certainly one of the better low-cost benches I’ve reviewed. It’s just a little unstable because it’s so light, and the stabilizers are narrow.
However, the upgraded version of the bench, or the heavy-duty option, got everything right. They took all that’s good about their dumbbell bench and added a slightly heavier-duty frame/welds, an adjustable seat, wider stabilizers, and adjustable levelers to keep the bench stable on uneven floors. It’s certainly one of my top three low-cost foldable benches. It packs a punch much higher than its price tag.
Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench FAQs
Does Lusper Make Good Weight Benches?
Lusper is a fairly new company, and at the moment, they focus most of their efforts on making budget benches. Their benches are not designed for serious lifters but are more for beginners and intermediates looking for a well-made, low-cost dumbbell bench. Also their weight benches are foldable which makes them an excellent choice for people who are tight on space.
Does the Lusper Weight Bench Include an Adjustable Seat?
The standard version of their weight bench does not include an adjustable seat. However, they do make a more heavy-duty version, which includes a 4-way adjustable seat. And cost just $20 more, it’s a bargain.
Can I Use The Lusper Weight Bench With My Power Rack?
The Lusper standard weight bench isn’t designed for heavy barbell lifting inside a power rack. It doesn’t have the heavy-duty build or stability to handle heavy barbell lifting. The upgraded heavy-duty version of their bench is more suitable for a power rack.
